US CORPORATES
US CORPORATES: Moody's said "the US airport sector experienced improvements in
almost all key financial metrics in 2016 thanks to solid economic growth and
lower airfares" in Moody's annual medians report.
- "As the economy continued to improve, people were more likely to spend money
on discretionary expenses like travel," said Jose Mendez, an associate analyst
at Moody's. "At the same time, low fuel prices and seat expansion by low-cost
and ultra low-cost carriers drove airfares down."
- "Enplanements -- the number of seats sold on flights -- grew at a median rate
of 4.1%, the largest rise since 2005," Moody's said. It also "projects that
enplanements will continue to grow in fiscal 2017, albeit at a moderated pace
due to weakened demand in the wake of several natural disasters affecting the US
mainland."
