Mozambique LNG Project Delayed by Contractors Costs

LNG

The restart of the Mozambique LNG project is being complicated by disagreements with contractors over extra costs according to TotalEnergies on Thursday.

  • The project was halted in 2021 after Islamic State-linked insurgents attacked civilians in the region.
  • TotalEnergies said cost considerations were now the last step before restarting Mozambique LNG as the security situation has stabilized.
  • They are waiting for a commissioned report, originally due in Feb, on the humanitarian situation before making a final decision with project partners.
  • The project plans to produce up to 43m tonnes of gas per year. TotalEnergies have previously said they don’t export LNG from Mozambique before 2027 at the earliest.
