N. Korea Launches Ballistic Missile Into East Sea

NORTH KOREA

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed that North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the East Sea, according to Yonhap News Agency.

  • Pyongyang had previously test-fired two short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) into the East Sea over a month ago.
  • Today's launch is seen as a response to the annual joint Ulchi Freedom Shield military exercise held by South Korea and the US until this Thursday.
  • Japan's Coast Guard has also detected a launch of a suspected ballistic missile, but no details have been provided as of yet, pending further analysis.
