Narrowest 'Yes' To Independence Lead Since May In New YouGov Poll

SCOTLAND

The latest opinion poll on Scottish independence shows the narrowest lead for the 'Yes' to independence camp since May 2020.

  • 'Should Scotland be an independent country?': Yes 43% (-2), No 42% (+2), Undecided 10%. Nov 6-10 (chgs w/6-10 Aug), YouGov. 1,089 respondents.
  • The 1% lead for the Yes camp is the narrowest since a May opinion poll from Panelbase that showed the two sides tied.
  • While the narrowing lead for 'Yes' will provide some relief to Westminster, there remains concern that if the pro-independence Scottish National Party win a majority in the Scottish parliament in next year's election, it could prove politically difficult to deny Scotland another referendum on independence.
  • One of the major issues for the UK gov't is the unpopularity of PM Boris Johnson in Scotland. A poll by JL Partners last month showed 79% of swing voters agreeing with the statement "Boris Johnson is not the leader I want to have for my country".
