NATGAS: US Heating Demand Seen 20 CDD Below Normal This Week

US heating demand for the week ending Nov. 30 is forecast to be 20 heating degree days (HDD) below the long-term normal, according to Bloomberg, citing the NOAA.

  • The regions with the largest deviation from the normal are the, W S Central 29 HDD below average, Mountain, 26 HDD below average, and New England 26 HDD below average.
  • In terms of states with the greatest deviations, New Mexico is forecast to be 60 HDD below average, followed by Arizona at 51 HDD below normal and North Dakota at 42 HDD above average.
  • This week’s total forecast for HDD is 131, compared to a normal of 151 and up from the actual figure of 117 from last week.
  • During the week to Nov. 23, the US was 19 HDD below normal.
  • Heating degree days measure energy demand to heat buildings. It is the number of degrees that the mean daily temperature is below a 65-degree Fahrenheit base. Greater numbers mean colder temperatures.
