Nato Increase Patrols of Critical European Energy infrastructure

Military patrols of key European energy infrastructure by Nato and its allies have increased amid concerns for the potential for sabotage according to an official for the military alliance via Montel.

  • “Nato and allies have substantially stepped up military patrols near critical infrastructure, including more ships on patrol as well as flights by maritime patrol aircraft and surveillance drones,” said the official.
  • “We’re guarding various subsea infrastructure, including data cables.”
  • The increase in infrastructure security has followed the damage to the subsea Balticconnector pipeline in October last year and the rupture of the Nord Strem pipelines in 2022.
