NBP Policymaker Gatnar Says Inflation To Average 4.2% in 2021

POLAND
  • In the past few weeks, we have seen that some NBP policymakers have become increasingly concerned over inflation risks in the near to medium term.
  • While NBP governor Adam Glapinski mentioned on Friday that inflation is still 'under control' and expects headline inflation to gradually slow down in the second half of this year, MPC member Eugeniusz Gatnar said today (on Biznes24 television) that CPI inflation may average 4.2% in 2021.
  • Gatnar also mentioned that inflation could reach 5% in June and expects demand pressure to build in Poland.
  • As sell-side firms have been reviewing their 2021 forecasts higher in recent weeks, the median estimates rose to 3.3% in May (up from 2.9% in April) but is still significantly lower than Gatnar 4.2% forecast.
