NBP Pours Cold Water On QT Talk, Sejm Debates Ousting Deputy Speaker

POLAND
  • The National Bank of Poland's (NBP) spokesman told media outlets that there is currently no discussion about Quantitative Tightening (QT) after MPC's Ireneusz Dabrowski flagged such an option last week, which pushed POLGB yields higher. The spokesman said that the NBP's Management Board (as opposed to the MPC) has the "decisive vote in this matter". Separately, the Board's Artur Sobon noted via his X handle that any such talk is "irresponsible". Some has speculated that the recent mentions of bond sales may have been a rhetorical strategy intended to shield Governor Adam Glapinski from prosecution by the new government.
  • The Sejm will vote on the Left's motion to unseat Deputy Speaker Krzysztof Bosak from the far-right Confederation party over their failure to adequately punish controversial lawmaker Grzegorz Braun for an anti-Semitic incident. PAP newswire reports that the Polish People's Party (PSL) will vote against the motion, while the Civic Coalition (KO), Poland2050 (PL2050) and Law and Justice (PiS) have not yet decided how to vote. Ousting Bosak would mean that there would be no opposition Deputy Speaker, with the ruling majority refusing to accept PiS's candidate.
  • The lower house of parliament will also debate a motion of no-confidence against Culture Minister Bartlomiej Sienkiewicz and an amendment that would extend the scope of a probe into the alleged use of Pegasus spyware against opposition lawmakers under the previous PiS administration.
