Net Norwegian-UK Power Flows Down on Month, Year

Average net Norwegian-UK power flows have fallen by around 11% so far in August from their 2024 high in July, with net flows down by 5% on the year, according to data from Entso-E.

  • Average net Norwegian-UK power flows are at 1.25GW so far in August, down from 1.41GW in July and 1.28GW in June.
  • In August 2023, average net flows were at 1.31GW.
  • Average prices in Norway’s NO2 bidding zone – where the UK-NO power link is located – were at €46.23/MWh over 1-21 August compared to €36.06/MWh in July, N2EX shows.
  • This compares to €71.84/MWh averaged on the UK spot in August from €82.42/MWh in the previous month – narrowing the NO-UK discount by almost half and increasing power flows from the UK-NO.
  • Finnish nuclear generation has averaged around 3.65GW over 1-19 August compared to 4.09GW in July and compared to 3.54GW in August 2023.
  • In Sweden, Nuclear output has averaged around 6GW so far in August, up from 4.88GW in July and 4.50GW in 2023.
  • Norwegian onshore wind output also rose on the month, averaging 1.37GW over 1-19 August compared to just 847MW in July.
