Netanyahu's Likud Gain In Polls As Gaza Violence Continues To Rage

ISRAEL

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing Likud Party scored its highest opinion polling support since before the March general election amid escalating violence in the Gaza strip and many Israeli cities.

  • Direct Polls (Seats): Likud (Conservative): 33 (+3), Yesh Atid (Liberal): 19 (+2), Shas (Haredi|Right): 9, Religious Zionist (Right): 8 (+2), Labor (Centre-left): 7, United Torah Judaism (Haredi|Right): 7, Yisrael Beiteinu (Center-right): 7, Joint List (Left): 6, Blue and White (Centrist): 6 (-2), New Hope (Conservative): 5 (-1), Ra'am (Islamist/Right): 5 (+1), Meretz (Green): 4 (-2), Yamina (Right): 4 (-3). +/- vs. 2021 election. Fieldwork: 13/05/21. Sample size: 803
  • The work by Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid to put together a gov't excluding Netanyahu has been scuppered by the conflict in Gaza and attacks by Hamas on Israeli cities. His mandate to form a gov't was presented on 5 May and lasts for 28 days, meaning he has until 2 June to put together a majority administration, something that seems a difficult prospect in the current situation.
  • Based on this poll, if reflected in a general election, a pro-Netanyahu gov't would be 4 seats short of a majority. This means that either the right-wing Yamina could prop up Likud for another term in office.
