NETHERLANDS-Li Talks To Rutte Following Dutch Export Ban On Chip Printers

(MNI) London-Chinese state media reports on a call between Premier Li Qiang and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Sino-Dutch relations are in focus following on from the Rutte gov'ts March decision to back US calls to restrict the export to China of printers used to produce high-tech semiconductors. This move is in an effort to stem Beijing's ability to use the equipment to develop advanced weaponry. The Netherlands is one of three countries alongside the US and Japan that produce high-tech semiconductor chip printers.

• Li: 'China sees the Netherlands as a priority partner in the EU, [and is] willing to work with the Netherlands to promote cooperation in various fields and continuously achieve new results.'
• Li: 'China hopes the Netherlands will adhere to market principles, safeguard common interests of both countries and enterprises, maintain smooth flow of global supply and industrial chain'.
• Rutte tweets: 'We discussed topics including our countries’ cooperation on trade and climate. Views were also exchanged on the war in Ukraine. I look forward to an open, constructive working relationship with Premier Li.' The call comes days after Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng paid a three-day visit to the Netherlands for talks with Rutte and a meeting with King Willem-Alexander.
