Nevada Poll Suggests Trump May Struggle In "Purple" States

US

A new survey from Nevada pollster Public Opinion Strategies has found that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is outperforming former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2024 presidential election matchup.

  • The poll finds that, in direct matchups: DeSantis (43%) leads Biden (42%); but Biden (45%) has a slight leader over Trump (42%).
  • The poll also finds that both Trump and Biden are unpopular with 53% saying they'd never vote for Trump and 49% saying the same of Biden.
  • The UVA Center for Politics identifies Nevada as one of the four states, along with Georgia, Wisconsin, and Arizona, most likely to influence the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
  • It should be noted that campaigning for 2024 is yet to begin in earnest and the poll results all fall within the traditional polling margin of error, but the poll may cause jitters amongst Republicans who blamed Trump's influence in swing states for the GOP underperformance in last year's midterm election.
  • The poll is also notable because it indicates that DeSantis may be more electable in swing states than his flagging national campaign suggests.
