New Israeli Government Looking to Promote Gas Exports

NATURAL GAS

Israeli new government Foreign Ministry officials are looking at ways to promote exports of Israeli gas to Europe and other new markets according to an Energy Intelligence source.

  • In June the European Commission signed a provisional LNG supply deal with Egypt and Israel and in November NewMed Energy and Uniper signed a provisional agreement to explore LNG supply.
  • In December Israel launched an offshore licensing round for 20 blocks following a maritime border agreement between Lebanon and Israel in October which could help attract more investment.
  • The potential Chevron second phase development of the 22tcf Leviathan gas field offshore Israel could be combined with development of the 4tcf Aphrodite field offshore Cyprus.
  • The potential supply from the region could be boosted further by gas discoveries from TotalEnergies, Eni and Exxon Mobil offshore Cyprus.
  • Energean started gas production at the Karish field offshore Israel last year and also announced the Hermes and Zeus discoveries.
