New Lawmakers To Be Sworn In Monday As Cabinet Reshuffle Approaches

News24 cites a statement from parliament noting that new MPs, expected to include the recently elected ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile, former Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau and former KwaZulu-Natap Premier Sihle Zikalala, will be sworn in on Monday.

  • All three will likely join the reshuffled Cabinet in the coming days, with Paul Masathile expected to become South Africa's Deputy President, replacing David Mabuza who failed to secure re-election in the race for the ruling party's deputy leadership.
  • According to the South African constitution, the President may select any number of ministers from the members of the National Assembly and no more than two ministers from outside the assembly.
