New NOC Chairman Vows to Return Libyan Production "Within a Week"

OIL
  • Libya’s new NOC chairman Farhat bin Qadara plans to return Libyan oil production back to 1.2mn bpd.
  • “The first step I will take is to return to previous oil production rates before the closure, and it will be within a week,” he said to Bloomberg.
  • He said the NOC will seek to increase output to 3mn bpd within two years.
  • Libya’s oil sector has been hammered by protests in recent months and the leadership of the NOC has been in disarray this week after Farhat bin Qadara was put in place via armed forces.
  • Ousted Mustafa Sanella still claims that he is in charge of the NOC, challenging the legitimacy of his dismissal.
  • The US has strongly condemned Sanella being forced from his position and said via Twitter that NOC “has remained politically independent and technically competent under the leadership of Mustafa Sanalla.”
