No Impact On Vaccine Production From Fire At Pune Pharma Plant

CEO of the Serum Institute of India Adar Poonawalla has stated that there does not appear to be any impact on vaccine production at the company's plant in Pune following a large fire there earlier today.

  • Poonawalla stated that there have been no recorded fatalities from the fire, saying that the company was 'Focused on rescuing people, will assess damage later'.
  • The Serum Institute of India is India's producer of the AstraZeneca/Oxford University vaccine Covishield.
  • India has so far vaccinated 806,484 individuals according to the Health Ministry, equating to 0.06 vaccinations per 100 population. Should be noted, though that India only began its vaccine drive at the weekend.
