LNG: Non-Russian LNG Carrier Passed Bab el-Mandeb Strait

A non-Russian LNG carrier has passed through the Bab el-Mandeb strait for the first time since Jan. 2024, according to ICIS vessel tracking data. 

  • The Salalah LNG vessel is headed to Turkey from Oman.
  • Prior to this, LNG vessels had essentially halted all transport via the route since Jan. 2024.
  • The Iran-backed Houthis promised to stop attacking ships in the Red Sea, except those flagged in Israel, following the Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal on Jan. 19.
