Nord Stream Turbine Likely for Discussions at G7

The Russian turbine for Nord Stream 1 that is blocked in Canada is likely to come up at G7 discussions according to Canada’s Natural Resources Minister today, but an outcome appears unlikely based on initial comments.

  • "I'm sure it'll come up at least in the corridors of the G7 ... I wouldn't hold my breath that we're going to find a resolution before the end." Jonathan Wilkinson said.
  • The leaders of G7 meet in Bavaria Sunday to Tuesday.
  • Russia have said today that delays in repairs could result in suspending all flows on the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, a severe issue for German gas supplies and its ability to restock storage ahead of winter.
  • German officials have publicly questioned whether the cut in flows is political rather than technical issue.
