Nordic Front Month Rebounds

POWER

The Nordic front month baseload power contract is currently trading higher this morning, rebounding from Wednesday’s close, amid several nuclear start-up delays announced yesterday, with prices in the German market adding additional support. But gas prices are trading lower- albeit range-bound-, which could weigh down the contract during Thursday’s trading session.

  • Nordic M1 24 Baseload power contract up 4.33% at €34/MWh.
  • TTF M1 24 down 0.16% at €29.685/MWh.
  • TTF front month is ranging with stable supplies and muted demand amid mild temperatures but with support from ongoing concern for supply via Ukraine.
  • Finnish nuclear plant operator Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) extended the outage at its 1.6GW Olkiluoto 3 (OL3) nuclear power plant to 16 May on Wednesday, latest Remit data show. The unit is still expected to return to the grid tomorrow, at around 1.57GW of capacity.
  • Swedish utility Vattenfall also delayed the start of their 1.11GW Forsmark nuclear reactor by 4 days to 22 May, according to latest Remit data.
  • The 1.08GW Ringhals unit 3 shut down on 15 May for planned maintenance, with works expected to last until 29 June.
  • Norway’s 163MW Songkjolen and Engerfjellet onshore wind farm unexpectedly shut down today due to blade damages, with its capacity curtailed by 125MW until 1 July.
  • The 1.45GW power link between the UK-Denmark will be off line between 18-22 June for planned maintenance.
  • Closer in, wind output in Norway is forecasts between 26-27% load factors, or 1.38-1.42GW over 17-18 May, before rising between 30-37% load factors, or 1.56-1.92GW over 19-20 May.
