North America LNG Export Cap to Reach 24.3bcf/d Through 2027: EIA

North America’s LNG export capacity is likely to more than double through 2027 from 11.4bcf/d today to 24.3bcf/d including the first export terminals in Mexico and Canada according to EIA.

  • A total of 10 new projects are expected to increase LNG export capacity by 1.1bcf/d in Mexico, 2.1bcf/d in Canada, and 9.7bcf/d in the US.
  • Projects in Mexico are Fast LNG Altamira 0.18bcf/d offshore in Dec 2023 and 0.36bcf/d onshore in 2025 and Fast LNG Lakach in 2026 on the east coast, and 0.4bcf/d Energia Costa Azul on the west coast in 2025.
  • Two LNG export projects on Canada’s west coast are LNG Canada with export capacity of 1.8bcf/d to begin in 2025, and Woodfibre LNG with 0.3bcf/d capacity in 2027.
  • Five LNG export projects Golden Pass, Plaquemines, Corpus Christi Stage III, Rio Grande, and Port Arthur are currently under construction in the US with a combined capacity of 9.7bcf/d. Golden Pass LNG and Plaquemines LNG are expected to start in 2024.
