North Korea May Have Test-Launched Missile From Submarine

More details emerging about North Korea's latest missile test:

  • South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the projectile was fired off the coastal city of Sinpo, which hosts a major submarine base and a platform used to fire submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs).
  • YoongAng Ilbo cited an unidentified South Korean military official as noting that North Korea may have tested a submarine-launched missile, while another source told the newspaper that the U.S. and South Korea were monitoring the launch after earlier detecting signs of preparations.
  • Japan's Prime Minister Kishida said that the DPRK launched two ballistic missiles, adding that the authorities are gathering information about the test.
