ELECTRICITY

Norwegian hydropower reserves last week rose sharply by 3.9 percentage points to 82.8% of capacity as of the end of last week, widening the surplus to the five-year average to the highest level so far this year, NVE data show.

  • Stocks widened the surplus to the five-year average to 6.64 percentage points in the past week, up from 3.81 points the week prior.
  • High precipitation last week supported inflows into reserves.
  • Norwegian hydropower output has fallen last week. Production from hydro reservoirs declined by 1.51GW week on week to 9.9GW. Onshore wind output last week rose by 586MW to 1.79GW, while gas-fired generation was stable on the week, Entso-E data show.
  • Forecasts suggest an uptick in wind power output for this week and while wet weather in the hydro-intensive is also expected to continue, which could further support inflows into reserves.
