NYC Mayor De Blasio Delays School Reopenings

Mayor of New York City Bill De Blasio has announced that schools will not reopen for in-person learning until September 21, with virtual lessons starting on September 16.

  • Comes a day after De Blasio suggested that indoor dining would not be allowed to resume at restaurants in the city until a vaccine was found.
  • New York state's new COVID-19 caseload remains very low by national standards. In the past week New York has averaged 626 new cases per day, the 23rd highest in the country. However, on a per capita basis, New York's case increase over the past 7 days has been the fourth lowest in the US , behind only Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire, three states with much lower populations and population densities than New York.
