NYT-Intel Suggests Pro-Ukraine Group Sabotaged Nord Stream: US Off.

SECURITY

NYT reporting that according to unnamed US officials, intelligence reviewed by them suggests that a pro-Ukraine group was responsible for the sabotage of Nord Stream gas pipelines in the North Sea in September 2022. So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Initially, many Western nations laid the blame at Moscow's door, while Moscow alleged that the UK was most probably behind the attack.

Putin of Russia, but does not specify the members of the group, or who directed or paid for the operation.[...] They have said that there are no firm conclusions about it, leaving open the possibility that the operation might have been conducted off the books by a proxy force with connections to the Ukrainian government or its security services."
  • In February, investigative journalist Seymour Hersh alleged that the US carried out the sabotage, a claim swiftly denied by the Pentagon.
