  • The ZEW Current Conditions edged down 2.2pt in Dec amid high infection rates and the extension of the lockdown and showed a slightly weaker reading than markets expected (BBG: -66.0).
  • The report notes that the sharp increase of expectations was mainly driven by the announcement of vaccine approvals, making financial experts more confident about the future.
  • Economic sentiment in the Eurozone improved significantly as well, up 21.6pt to 54.4 in Dec, while current conditions improved marginally by 0.7pt to -75.7.
