Opposition Leader Refuses to Rule Out Early Election

  • CHP leader Kilicdaroglu spoke to Birgun this morning, claiming that the opposition would win the presidency in the 1st round of voting, adding that the opposition candidate should be a joint one for all among the opposition, uniting the HDP and its left-wing allies. Kilicdaroglu also wouldn’t rule out an early election, stating that Bahceli could make the decision unilaterally or in conjunction with Erdogan.
  • Speaking in Hurriyet, finance minister Nebati stated that public finances remain one of the strongest elements of the economy, and that the government will never compromise on fiscal discipline.
  • Trade balance data for May came in broadly inline with expectations – a deficit of 10.6bln vs. Exp. Deficit of 10.7bln. The release showed imports rising at 43.5% on a Y/Y basis, while exports rose 15.3%.
