Orban Warns EU Against Discussing Start of Ukraine Membership Bid

  • Prime Minister Orban warned the EU against discussing the start of membership talks with Ukraine at a leaders summit in Brussels next week, according to a letter seen by Bloomberg News late yesterday. “There are expectations that on this occasion the European Council can and must decide on starting accession negotiations with Ukraine,” Orban wrote, adding that “In view of the current level of political and technical preparations, these expectations are unfounded.”
  • Hungary has complied with all European Commission demands related to judicial reform and awaits the arrival of EU funds, the justice minister said as per MTI. Tuzson told journalists during the break of a meeting of EU justice ministers that Hungary now considered EU discussions on judicial reform "to be closed". "We've replied to all questions and acceded to all requests connected to the release of EU funds," he said.
