LNG: Pakistan Plans to Renegotiate LNG Pricing with Qatar: Platts
LNG
Pakistan plans to review the price of LNG under its 15-year contract with QatarEnergy due to decreased electricity consumption and financial difficulties, Platts said.
- The original contract, signed at a slope of 13.37% of Brent, is being reconsidered to discourage expensive LNG-fired power.
- State companies have deferred five LNG cargoes and expect more deferrals, Platts added.
- The 15-year contract, supplying 3.75m mtpa, allows for price renegotiation or termination at the 10-year mark in 2026.
- Pakistan State Oil also has a 10-year contract with QatarEnergy and a 15-year contract with Italy's Eni.
- Price reviews are becoming common due to market volatility.
- Pakistan has a government-to-government agreement with Azerbaijan's Socar for monthly LNG imports.
- Pakistan imports 120-140 LNG cargoes annually, mostly under long-term contracts.
