Papua New Guinea Potential Gas Supplier for Japan

Papua New Guinea has offered Japanese companies favoured access to gas development opportunities and LNG projects in trade talks between the countries today.

  • "I assured Prime Minister Kishida that Papua New Guinea can help Japan's energy security needs with a continuous supply of LNG," Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape said.
  • "I assured him that if there are any additional gas fields to be developed, Japan would be given priority in developing these, which I discussed later with Sojitz, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation and LNG Japan Corporation." he added.
  • Japan is seeking energy security in the wake of supply fears surrounding Russian gas which the country is heavily reliant on.
