Pavel & Babis To Face Off In Online Debate, No-Confidence Debate Resumes

  • Presidential contenders Petr Pavel and Andrej Babis will face off in an online debate organised by Denik.cz at 11:00CET/10:00GMT. The second round of the election will take place on January 27-28. Simulations based on betting market pricing show that Pavel remains a clear frontrunner, with an implied 80% chance of winning.
  • The lower house of parliament resumes the no-confidence debate today after its 12-hour sitting was adjourned in late evening hours. Andrej Babis, who leads the ANO movement that tabled the motion, skipped the debate to focus on his presidential campaign, but may return for the vote.
  • Petr Pavel will meet with Senator Pavel Fischer, who came fourth in the first round of the presidential election. He had earlier secured the backing of Danuse Nerudova, who finished the race in third place. It is expected that Fischer will pledge support to Pavel's campaign.
