Pension Funds Seek Emergency Loans From Companies

  • Bloomberg reports that a number of UK companies are facing calls to provide emergency loans to their employee pension scheme in the latest bid for those funds to raise cash.
  • GBPUSD sees relatively little impact on the headline, coming on a day of further large moves: currently +0.9% at 1.1078 after BoE’s Bailey yesterday saying the emergency purchases would indeed end Friday sparked an eventual -1.7% fall in the cross.
  • Limited reaction potentially from limited macro size for now: “one lawyer said the requests among his clients for short-term emergency loans from employers may end up totaling hundreds of millions of pounds.” Full story here.
