PERU: Finance Minister Arista Says 2025 Budget Focused On Regions

PERU
  • Finance Minister Jose Arista said yesterday that that the Public Budget Law for FY 2025 has a clear decentralising focus, with over 45% allocated to the regions. Arista also said that the $67.13bn budget, which was approved on Nov 30, prioritises the allocation of resources to ensuring citizen security and infrastructure investment, given that on-going insecurity issues have been noted to be weighing on economic activity.
  • In other news, new energy and mines minister, Jorge Montero Cornejo, is expected to continue with the formalisation of small mining operations, according to Andina, following the firing of the previous mining minister, Rómulo Mucho, by Congress last week due to his perceived mishandling of the process.
  • On the data front, no macro data are due today, with focus turning to next week’s BCRP monetary policy meeting, which is scheduled for Dec 12.
