Bloomberg cites a confirmation from the Akbayan party that an impeachment complaint has been filed against Vice President Sara Duterte at the House of Representatives today, accusing her of "culpable violations of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust and other high crimes."
- According to Bloomberg, "the complainants include a group of civil society leaders and former government officials, with the case endorsed by Congressman Perci Cendana." The complaint has been filed after President Ferdinand Marcos last week tried to play down his simmering tensions with Duterte, calling the debate on her potential impeachment a "storm in a teacup."
- The relationship between the two most senior officials has rapidly deteriorated since their ticket won the election in 2022 by a landslide, with relations between their respective political clans souring. Our political risk team covered the latest developments in this update last week.
- The Philippine Star reported that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will probe the alleged death threats made by Vice President Duterte against President Ferdinand Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez regardless of whether she attends the hearing slated for December 11.
