PM Frederiksen's Social Democrats Hold Top Spot In First 2022 Poll

DENMARK

First polling from 2022 shows the governing Social Democrats of PM Mette Frederiksen maintaining a lead at the top of polls, although the opposition centre-right Venstre continues to narrow the gap having overtaken the other main centre-right party in Denmark - the Conservative People's Party - in recent weeks.

  • Voxmeter poll: Social Democrats: 25% (-1), Venstre: 17% (+2), Conservatives: 15%, Red-Greens: 9%, Socialist People's Party: 9%, Social Liberals: 7%, Danish People's Party: 6% (-1), New Right: 6%, Liberal Alliance: 3%, Christian Democrats: 2%, Alternative: 1%, +/- vs. 20-23 December 2021. Fieldwork: 3-8 January 2022. Sample size: 1,002
  • While the next election is not due until June 2023 at the latest, PM Frederiksen may be inclined to seek an early election before then given the overall strength of the political left in Denmark. While her Social Democrats would not be able to secure a majority, they look set to remain the largest party and could rely on the support of the Socialist Left, Social Liberals, and Red-Green Alliance to secure another term in office based on recent polling.
