CANADA: PM Justin Trudeau sets the date for country's next general election as
Monday 21 October. 
- Nationwide opinion polls neck-and-neck between his Liberals and opposition
Conservatives.
- Trudeau's gov't suffered slump in polling following scandal in early 2019
involving SNC-Lavalin and prime minister's office followed by resignation of
Attorney General.
- Crucially for Liberals, they lead Tories in regional polling in riding-heavy
province of Ontario, while Trudeau also beating Conservative head Andrew Scheer
in leadership polling.
- Liberals could benefit in key marginal ridings from decline in support for
leftist New Democratic Party.
