PM Kishida Declares COVID-19 Quasi-State Of Emergency In 13 Prefectures

JAPAN

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has stated that 13 Japanese prefectures, including Tokyo, will enter into a COVID-19 quasi-state of emergency from 21 January to 13 February in an effort to control the spread of the Omicron variant.

  • Compared to lockdown restrictions in other Asian and developed market states, the Japanese quasi-SoE measures remain relatively mild and therefore are unlikely to take a significantly negative toll on the economy.
