PM Sunak Faces Liaison Committee Questioning @ 1500BST

UK

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will face around two hours of questions from 13 MPs on a range of topics as he gives evidence to the House of Commons Liaison Committee at 1500BST (1000ET, 1600CET) this afternoon. The Liaison Committee is the highest-ranking of Commons select committees and its composed of the chairs of all other select committees. The previous Liaison Committee session focused largely on foreign policy issues, with this one to focus on budget/economic issues (six questions), migrants arriving on small boats (four questions), and the Windsor framework (three questions).

  • Sunak's Liaison Committee sessions are seen as a different event from his predecessor-but-one (Liz Truss was not in office long enough to appear in front of the Liaison Committee). While Boris Johnson was viewed as less detail-oriented in his approach to committee appearances, Sunak is seen as likely to have 'done his homework' and could provide some concrete answers on questions related to the budget and the state of the economy.
