PM Tests Positive For COVID As Historic Arab-Israeli Summit Continues

ISRAEL

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has tested positive for COVID-19 his office has confirmed, shortly after holding talks with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken over the weekend.

  • Bennett's office has stated that the PM"is feeling well and will continue his schedule as planned from his home".
  • The PM met with Blinken on the sidelines of an historic summit in the southern Negev desert. The main day of the summit (today) will see Israel's foreign minister, Yair Lapid, meet with his counterparts from the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Egypt, with Blinken also in attendance.
  • The summit comes as concerns mount in Israeli and anti-Iranian Arab states about the prospect of Tehran coming to an agreement with JCPoA signatories in Vienna.
  • US also seeking to impress on Israel and Arab nations Washington D.C.'s view that these nations should take a hardline stance on Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
