PM To Pause Reforms, But Still Plan To Pass By End-Summer-Ben Gvir

ISRAEL

The far-right Otzma Yehudit party of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has confirmed in a statement that PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Ben-Gvir have reached an agreement that the controversial judicial reforms that have sparked massive protests and a general strike will be postponed. However the plan is to pass them by the end of the Knesset summer session.

  • Anshel Pfeffer at Haaretz: "In other words, Netanyahu will be suspending the judicial overhaul but not abandoning it. Protests will continue. So Netanyahu is going to pause the judicial overhaul and now has his entire coalition on board. But he’s promising it will pass in a couple of months which means Israel’s unrest will continue, or Netanyahu’s coalition will be very disappointed."
