The office of the prime minister has said that the Israeli Defence Forces will not complete their withdrawal from southern Lebanon by the 60-day ceasefire deadline on 26 Jan as the "agreement is not fully enforced". Other reports have suggested that the Israeli gov't is seeking approval from the US for an additional 30 days to bring its troops out of Lebanon.
- The IDF claims that the Lebanese army is deploying too slowly across the south of the country. Under the terms of the ceasefire, Hezbollah must retreat north of the Litani River, ~30km (18 miles) from the Israeli border, but the IDF claims it is still finding weapon caches in areas under the ceasefire. As such the agreement is not fulfilled.
- Barak Ravid at Axios: "Senior Israeli officials said that at a meeting of the political and security cabinet on Thursday night, it was decided that the IDF would withdraw forces from parts of the eastern sector of the border with Lebanon, but would leave forces in other parts for a period of several additional weeks."
- A statement from Hezbollah on 23 Jan demanded a full withdrawal of Israeli troops by the 60-day deadline. As Al Jazeera notes, “Hezbollah is hinting that it’s going to resume military action. It says if Israeli soldiers remain, they will be an occupying force and there will be ‘resistance’...Whether those threats are serious – considering that Hezbollah has been severely weakened during Israel’s war – is open to question,”
