Poland and Canada have signed an agreement to enhance nuclear power cooperation, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, cited by Reuters.

  • Poland is preparing to select a partner for a second nuclear plant after choosing Westinghouse for the first on the Baltic Sea coast.
  • Additionally, Poland has approved the construction of 24 SMR units across six sites, with the first expected by 2030.
  • Tusk emphasized that Poland needs new energy sources, particularly for large data centres, to lead in modern technology sectors like AI and cybersecurity.
  • Separately, PGE is set to purchase a 50% stake in Ze Pak’s 2.8GW nuclear power project and a 100% stake in a 600MW gas-fired unit, MNI reported on 23 January.
  • And at the same time, EdF and Poland's PGE are exploring potential cooperation on nuclear power projects, PGE Ceo Dariusz Marzec said on X on Friday.
  • Poland is eyeing a total nuclear capacity of around 6-9GW in the upcoming decades.
