Poland Could Raise Power Exports to Ukraine to 1.2GW

POWER

Poland could increase power exports to Ukraine to 1.2GW, from 340MW currently, if Entso-E would loosen export restrictions to the European eastern neighbouring countries, the head of Poland’s PSE, Grzegorz Onichimowski, told Montel.

  • Polish-Ukrainian power exports are currently capped because of grid stability issues.
  • Onichimowski would encourage lifting the restrictions to guarantee security of supply in for Ukraine.
  • Entso-E raised export capacities to Ukraine and Moldova from EU countries to 1.7GW in November 2023.
  • Russian attacks on Ukraine have so far destroyed 9.2GW of power generation capacity, the Ukrainian ambassador to the EU said on Sunday.
  • Poland could ramp up exports to 1.2GW, Onichimowski said.
  • “Poland has a large surplus of coal and it can use it to help Ukraine survive the coming winter as there is too little time for the country to replenish destroyed capacities,” Onichimowski said.
  • Ukraine will finalize a decision on increasing the country’s power import capacity by this winter, with technical import capacity as high as 2.5GW, Energy Minister German Galuschenko said previously.
