European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had already said earlier in May that the "article 7 procedure" launched against Poland over rule-of-law concerns that arose under the previous administration can be closed. The move marks another step in the rapprochement between Brussels and Poland's new pro-EU government after the unfreezing of suspended post-pandemic aid earlier this year.
