Poland June 24 Power Continues Downward Trend

Poland’s June 2024 baseload power contract continued to trade lower on Wednesday, shrugging off slight gains in the emissions and coal markets amid warmer temperatures and renewable forecasts and limited power plant maintenance.

  • Poland June 2024 Baseload power down ~0.65% at PLN388/MWh – its last traded price, according to data on Polish power exchange TGE. This is the lowest since 29 April when it settled at PLN378.05/MWh.
  • The June 24 power contract traded just once for 1MW, down from 31MW exchanged in the previous session.
  • API 2 June 24 up 0.6% at $107.30/t
  • December 2024 EU ETS contract is up 0.27% at €70.41/t CO2e.
  • Temperatures in Warsaw over June have been relatively unchanged on the day and are still anticipated between 18-20°C in June, above the 30-year seasonal average of ~ 17°C.
  • Closer in, Polish wind output is expected at around 4.5GW over 16-17 May. Wind is then expected between 1.3-3.05GW over 20-18 May before slightly picking up to around 4.1GW over 22-21 May, according to Bloomberg.
  • The only major outages at the Polish power plants that over June will be at the 1.8GW Kozienice 1 coal plant, with two 228MW units offline on 3 June until 2 August and 21 September, latest Remit data show.
  • The 230MW unit 3 at the 690MW Ostroleka B will also shut down over 1 June-1 October. And the 390MW unit 12 at the 5.1GW Belchatow plant will be off line over 9-23 June.
  • But the unplanned maintenance at the 220MW unit 5 at 1.34GW Jaworzno 3 plant will end on 3 June.
