POLAND: NBP Governor Denies Accusations, Parliamentary Probe To Go Ahead

  • NBP Governor Adam Glapinski delivered a special address to the public, pushing back against the accusations formulated by the parliamentary majority in the course of the ongoing probe into the official's conduct. The Governor called the investigation aiming to put him on trial before the Tribunal of State politically motivated and unjustified, warning that it will threaten "the central bank's credibility and independence and the value of the Polish currency." The Governor issued his statement hours after chair of the parliamentary Constitutional Accountability Committee (ODK) confirmed that he wanted to press ahead with the probe and summon over 50 witnesses (including the Governor) to testify.
