Poland's PGNig to Expand Domestic Gas Storage by 25%

Poland’s PGNiG announced plans today to increase its gas storage capacity by 25% to 4 billion cubic metres.

  • "The expansion of the gas storage facility in Wierzchowice will significantly enhance Poland's energy security," PGNiG chief executive Iwona Waksmundzka-Olejniczak said in a statement, adding "This will make us more resilient to crises like the one we are currently dealing with in Europe."
  • Polish gas storage is near capacity at 97% but overall storage is fairly limited at 3.2bcm. Winter demand is approximately 2 bcm.
