Poll Shows Erdogan Behind 2 Potential Challengers In Presidential Race

Latest opinion polling from Yoneylem shows incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan trailing both Mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamogul and Mayor of Ankara Mansur Yavas - the two frontrunners for the centre-left Republican People's Party (CHP) presidential nomination - in a hypothetical second round presidential election.

  • Yoneylem poll: Pres. election, run-off scenarios, +/- vs. 21-25 May 2021, Fieldwork: 25-29 Jun 2021. Sample size: 3,848 :
    • Yavas (CHP-S&D): 56% (-1), Erdogan (AKP~NI): 44% (+1)
    • Imamoglu (CHP-S&D): 53% (-2), Erdogan (AKP~NI): 47% (+2)
  • While the next presidential election is not set to take place until June 2023 at the latest, hypothetical second round polls now consistently show Erdogan trailing the potential presidential nominees from the CHP, with the incumbent leading in only one of the last 10 polls against either CHP candidate.
