Polling Shows Gov't Support Holding Up Amid EU Spat

POLAND

Latest opinion polling from Poland shows that support for PM Mateusz Morawiecki's governing Law and Justice Party (PiS) holding up amid an ongoing spat between Warsaw and Brussels that saw a number of EU leaders overtly criticise the Polish gov't at last week's European Council summit.

  • IBRiS poll: PiS: 39%, Civic Coalition (KO): 26%, Poland 2050 (PL2050): 15% (+1), Left (Lewica): 10% (+2), Confederation (Kon): 5% (-2), Polish People's Party (PSL): 5% (-1). +/- vs. 24-25 September 2021. Fieldwork: 22-23 October 2021. Sample size: 1,100
  • While support for the PiS is holding up relatively well, there is no guarantee this level of support would be enough to win an overall majority in parliament. While the next election is not due to be held until 2023, the gov't is a minority one backed up by a narrow confidence-and-supply agreement. Any shift in loyalties could see the gov't collapse before elections are due to take place.
