Polls Show Babis Would Lose To Either Of Main Rivals In Runoff Of Presidential Race

CZECHIA

If the Czech presidential election was held today, former Prime Minister Anrej Babis would lose to whichever of his two main rivals proceeds to the runoff, according to the latest opinion polls.

  • The latest Median opinion poll showed that both Danuse Nerudova and Petr Pavel would defeat Babis in the runoff by comfortable margins (the pollster did not test the Nerudova-Pavel scenario). In addition, Nerudova for the first time took the lead in polling for the first round, garnering the support of 28.0% of respondents. Babis came second on 26.5% and Pavel was third on 23.5%. All three strengthened at the expense of minor candidates.
  • Seznam Zpravy's "poll of polls," based on a weighted average of all available survey results, suggests that Babis remains the frontrunner to win the first round. However, Babis is set to lose in the runoff, regardless of whether he faces Nerudova or Pavel.
  • Czech voters will elect the President of the Republic by direct vote on January 13-14. Should none of the candidates receive a simple majority, a runoff between the top two candidates will be held two weeks later.
