ECB: POV: Draghi, Can I Ask a Question Before You Go, Please?
Following September's comprehensive easing package and ahead of Christine
Lagarde taking over the mantle, there is a unanimous consensus that no new
policy will be announced at Thursday's meeting. The sell-side is still expecting
further deposit rate cuts in either Dec or Mar and there are also some
expectations of an increase in the pace of QE at later meetings. This will leave
the focus on the Q&A in the meeting.
- The main questioning is expected to be around the internal disagreements as
some GC members who are generally thought to hold fairly neutral views have
aired their disagreements with September's policies publicly.
Other questions expected to be asked include:
- Issue/issuer limits: One of the main points of interest but we expect little
clarity to be given on this issue until the extent of the slowdown in the
Eurozone economy becomes clear. (1/2)
